ALEXANDRIA, Va. – High-end and promotional sleep sets made by U.S. bedding producers gained market share in units last year, according to a new analysis by the International Sleep Products Assn.

ISPA’s 2018 Mattress Industry Trends Report notes that units for sleep sets retailing at under $500 jumped from 37.1% of the market for U.S. producers in 2017 to 41.2% of units last year. And sleep sets retailing for $2,000 and up saw their unit share jump from 7.3% in 2017 to 8.1% last year, the report said.

Units in the other two categories – sleep sets retailing from $500 to $1,000, and from $1,000 to $2,000 – declined last year. They fell from 36.1% of the market in 2017 to 31.7% of the market in the $500 to $1,000 segment last year, and they fell from 19.5% of the market in 2017 to 19% of the market for the $1,000 to $2,000 segment last year, ISPA said.

In terms of dollar growth, sleep sets retailing from $1,000 to $2,000 saw their share rise from 29.6% of the market in 2017 to 31.3% of the market last year, the ISPA report said.

ISPA noted that the price point analysis was based on “a limited sample” in dollars and units. Producers accounting for a majority of U.S.-made sleep sets participated in the price point analysis survey, the bedding industry’s trade association said.
