When a guest has a special need, they turn to you, the concierge, the person who can get things done no matter what the need is. The Certified Hotel Concierge certification recognizes your superior guest service skills, your ability to use technology and the Internet, your skill at providing personalized service, your diversity awareness, and your immersion in global and cultural environments. You meet the highest standards for ethics and risk management. This certification was developed as part of a collaboration among AHLEI, Les Clefs D'Or USA, and The International School of Hospitality (TISOH).

The CHC certification can help you excel in your current position, move further toward your career goals, and show that you are among the best in your profession.

You can earn the CHC designation in two ways:

Education Emphasis

Successfully complete the Art of Concierge program with The International School of Hospitality.

Experience Emphasis

Current, full-time employment as a hotel lobby concierge with at least 90 days’ experience in the field.
Educators Only: Currently teaching a course in concierge at an accredited academic institution.
Les Clefs d’Or Members Only: Currently a member in good standing with Les Clefs d’Or.

Resource Materials

Candidates for the Certified Hotel Concierge designation receive a package of print and online resources.

The CHC Study Guide Package contains the following components:

CHC workbook with 14 chapters written by Les Clefs d’Or members, each focusing on a competency identified as being of critical importance to the success of a hotel concierge. Topic areas include: communication, operational management, professionalism, perception and knowledge and relationships.
Access to an online workshop hosted on The International School of Hospitality (TISOH) Learning Management System.

The CHC exam is a 60-question multiple choice exam that you take at the end of the CHC workshop (classroom or online), or within two weeks after the workshop with an approved proctor. You will have 75 minutes to complete the exam and must score at least 70 percent to pass.

The hospitality industry constantly changes, so hospitality professionals must continually advance their knowledge and skills. For this reason, certification designees hold their certification for only five years.

During the next five years, the designee must:

Maintain their qualifying position within the industry
Earn points by fulfilling activity requirements

Points are earned for:

Professional experience
Professional development activities/seminars
Industry-related involvement
Educational services

Other ways to earn recertification points include:

Complete any AHLEI hospitality management course online. They provide five points toward the recertification total. View course offerings and enroll today.
Earn points for attending any industry-affiliated tradeshow, conference, or convention.

A candidate may elect to sit for the exam to earn recertification instead of earning points. The candidate must achieve a minimum score of 70 percent to recertify.

The recertification fee* is $100. Candidates who recertify must pay the fee, complete a maintenance activity form, submit all supporting documentation, and sign the maintenance agreement - agreeing to all terms.

Once recertified, you will receive a new jeweled lapel pin that reflects the number of years you are certified and a new certificate.

*Prices are subject to change without notice.
